In my opinion, the jutneck shortens the arms. I would stick with a standard collar. In terms of structure, that of the first is more appealing than the loose form of the latter, which veers in the territory of too casual.

that you think of it as two different pieces - open/closed and collar up/down is part of what makes it so good. too bad you don't like it either way...
Why buy Blanche when the originals are so exquisite (and frankly, cost a mere fraction when first purchased, or found used.) It is also heartening to see when such pieces are appreciated and understood by others
It is one her of her best, without a doubt. I for one will miss Ann D's nuance and the poetic pathos she injects in her work, but I haven't purchased anything from a current season for years. (Perhaps the rest of you SZers can afford to do so, but I can't.) Her assistants are perfectly capable in any case.
