Zam Barrett SS13

Spring-summer 2013 marks the fifth mens collection for New York based, Jamaican born designer Zam Barrett. Presented in Paris – handmade in the designers atelier in Brooklyn, the collection compiles wearable clothing with influences from tailored and work wear as well as military garments, and fabrics sourced from Barrett’s homeland as well as the US.

Perhaps more notably than before, Barrett has taken influence from his past involvement in military design which can be seen in some of the detailing. His tailoring skills shine through in the unique pattern work, take for example the jeans which might at first seem fairly classic, but upon further inspection have a unique cut where the back pocket seam extends all the way down the leg. Leather wear is produced in beautiful washed calf, fabrics include cotton painter’s canvas and linen jacquard which are all garment dyed and hand-finished in the workshop.

In August of this year, exactly a year after the current factory space was opened, the atelier will move to a new, bigger space to host the growing workshop along with a showroom and small retail space. For next spring, the label can be seen at a number of new stores globally.
