Sarah Moon at Palazzo Fortuny in Venice

If you happen to be in Venice in the next few months, don’t miss the Sarah Moon exhibit at Palazzo Fortuny. Moon is a perennial favorite, and this sensual, melancholic series of photographs taken at the Palazzon is no exception.

The exhibit is Moon’s tribute to Mariano Fortuny, the Renaissance man whose kind is now extinct. The intimate photos were taken at the Palazzo Fortuny. Moon’s strength in freezing the moment and rendering it both lasting and ethereal is all the more pronounced when her subject matter is fitting, and in Palazzo Fortuny she hit a jackpot. The black and white photos that she has taken over thirty years worth of visits to the palazzo are eloquent, especially when they highlight fragments of the statues housed within.

Any photographer whose work is worth looking at makes the world hers. I wouldn’t mind living in the one Moon creates, this exhibition included.
