Taking care of Rick Owens Sneakers?

    Hi All!

I apologize if this is the wrong forum, I did read the descriptions but I couldn't figure out which one to post this question in :(

I recently bought a pair of the Rick Owens Calf-Leather trainers in Black and White.

I was wondering, before I wear them out, if I should treat the leather with anything to prolong the lifespan of these shoes? UV protection or anything else that might be needed?

Also, is there anything to treat the white rubber strip to prevent the yellowing that I have seen and heard about from other owners?

Thank you so much in advance!

I rub butter and vaseline over my Rick Owens Calf-Leather trainers every morning. keeps them spiffy and ready for easy entry.

    seriously though

    they are sneakers

Hi. I like your necklace. - It's actually a rape whistle, but the whistle part fell off.

if you feel like it, use some leather protectant spray. its not magic so it wont miraculously keep your sneakers from getting scuffs and marks, but it can protect the leather at least a bit.

expensive or not, they are sneakers, which are worn on your feet. on the ground. they will age with use.

always read the fine print on the can before you spray......... a brand i used in this exact situation on my 07/08 b+w's turned them yellow........... I ended up dying them black.

i have never sprayed shoes since and know appreciate them aging naturally.....

never had that happen to me, I guess it depends on the stuff you use.

Thanks for the replies thus far, I do realize they are shoes and of course they will wear out, I just want to slow that process down. Most of my sneakers I will just wear into the ground and not care but then again they didn't cost $1,000+

I felt like you originally, Damage, I was trying to not destroy my ROs because usually I do destroy sneakers by wearing them so much, but these guys are right, they look best when you can see the wear they've gone through. Also I just hate the idea of doing anything to leather as beautiful as the shoes are made of.

yeah it was bad luck, at the bottom of the blurb on the can (that i didnt read) it said "may change some colors".

My point being though I felt the same way, in part I thought I would only buy them if I took the best of care of them, which actually led to their downfall,

but any way I'v moved on...

I just got a pair not too long ago as well, and I'm not sure if this happens on all RO sneakers or just mine, but the white rubber strip tends to separate just a little bit from the crepe sole at the heel. So mud/sand/small rocks were getting stuck in there (and making the gap bigger), which was a little annoying. I just super glued it shut, so we'll see how that works out.

the only thing i would consider doing is replacing the heel with a smalll black insert like seen on a few peoples, chirs and sphoxx did it and it looks good and has a function

having said that i will never get my lazy asss round to doing it
                        .

That sounds interesting, how does the replacement heel look if I may ask?

Hope Chris doesn't mind. It's good. I may end up also doing this.

Will any shoe repair place do that? I have another pair of boots with crepe soles and the few places I've been to won't touch them.
