I bought mine at full retail too. I try not to think of them as sneakers since they fit like boots. Like Casius, I wear mine pretty often too so IMO it's money well spent for me.

While they fit like boots, I hear the crepe sole doesn't fare as well as a leather one would, and is difficult, if not impossible, to resole. that should also be taken into account.. How hard you wear your trainers will also affect whether they become worth it after a year or three.. Although they look badass once worn in really hard.

The crepe sole definately doesn't fare that well but no one should be wearing the same pair of shoe 24/7 anyways. I have seen resoles done before to some RO trainers but I'm not sure whether it's difficult or not for the cobbler. Shouldn't be too difficult I suppose.
