oh and, on a totally different note (well maybe not so different actually) i handled and even tried on the new bbs leather everyone is talking about with great praise, the one with classic shirt collar and double zip... in a 'perforated' (who said CCP08? not me for sure) version. Retail is €3077. Maybe in my book after all, badass equals wtf.

Hey, now, give SZ some credit in terms of hype-creation.

BSR - badass means \/ (I don't know how anyone in head-to-toe Harnden can look badass)

funny, i re-watched the wild one last summer for a film festival where i had to introduce the movie (alongside with a couple of others) to the audience, and i was shocked at how brando's silhouette in this legendary schott rider jacket looks weird today: i'm sure that if he came back now and posted a waywt pic, most people would feel it's a very boxy fit (ultra broad shoulders)

I guess he would simply look eurotrash.

If badass-ery can be defined by the display of an aggressive virility and the mixed feelings of attraction and apprehension it provokes, I doubt it can be found anywhere near the fashion sphere.

Unless one simply wants to picture it.

But maybe badass-ery is just the clumsy, though refined -and thus forever unauthentic - figuration of true feral dangerosity. Because frankly, dangerous bastards often look like shit, ain't they ?

I can see a hat, I can see a cat,
I can see a man with a baseball bat.

Also, he looks like he has a very fat bum in that film...
And that look to me evokes something like the village people and a kitshisation of virility and danger, which is what rockstars have been doing for teenagers since Elvis. I think guys who try to look "badass" mostly look silly, especially as they advance in ae and move past the 30 mark

For me, look no further than Edith Blayney:

Hi. I like your necklace. - It's actually a rape whistle, but the whistle part fell off.

We definitely have some sort of a culture clash here.
I can see a hat, I can see a cat,
I can see a man with a baseball bat.

I thought that was the point of it all.

@moth: agreed, this is a nice explicit definition of what 'badass' could mean.

@galia&moth&beuys: also brando's outfit here is a classic gay icon (and maybe what galia finds silly is the kind of comic involved with 'straight' guys who desperately want to look super viril). and beuys's ostensive definition of badass also displays a genre confusion, the other way around. so badass has after all a deeper meaning than being in a picture where the background is very blurry

Wait, ate you all judging a picture from the 50s (40s?) by today's style standards?!

Next question is what eurotrash means? I'm afraid I don't get how Wild One look would look eurotrash today.

                        Maybe Dsquared could answer that
I can see a hat, I can see a cat,
I can see a man with a baseball bat.

nothing to do with today's standards: Brando was bissexual.

"badass" x "in your face" = "in your ..." ?

Fully agree with The Moth and Galia of course.

I think that I do understand now better what "badass" means.
I assume that he is too, isnt'he ?

                            Yep. Got the confirmation.

And how do you guys would translate "homosexuel refoulé" in English ?
