Really I'd just like to know where the leather comes from.

I think I know where you are coming from - I've been a vegetarian for >10y. My wife as well and before that she was vegan ("x on my hand now take the oath..."). I also own 4 pairs of carpes and so on and she wants a rick leather. I guess for me it is about what I put inside myself. That said, I wish there was a sustainable business model for something like free range/cruelty free leather as it would fit well into my slow-food/slow everything lifestyle. Outside of boots, a wallet, and a bag or two, I don't own any leather and always think twice at least before buying more. Like you, I assuage the cognitive dissonance by focusing on how long I will likely own the item (maybe thats why I only have cdiems). Nevertheless, it doesn't hold me back from marvelling at the leather goods consistently posted on boards like this.

this vaguely reminds me of seeing unwound shows at the cooler, etc in nyc in the mid 90s and there's was always this foul group of kids setting up a table and videos of animal cruelty and slaughter, playing the shit looped d loop looped d loop really intense shit that made me want to vomit esp after losing my shit to head full of bricks to throw off a cliff no plan or direction just aim for a section in the course of the action there is no reaction no windows ever broken attentions never stolen
so i would always get in a fight with them and say isn't there a better time a better place than a punk show, but clearly, what do i know? One wonders where it will end, when everything has become gay.

wondered about this, as carol's work is a veritable slaughterhouse - some of the more politically-charged vegans amongst us (surely there are a few) likely faint at the thought of the aforementioned, in all of its mummified, object-tanned splendour.
i myself believe that eating animals doesn't make one less capable of loving animals in general. that said, i think living out here for a while has turned me into a die-hard carnivore, to the tune of being that guy deep-frying the tur-duck-hen whilst simultaneously basting the brisket. One wonders where it will end, when everything has become gay.

kangaroo leather is entirely free range if that helps... Kangaroo is not farmed, rather, it is culled from the wild as a means of preventing overpopulation and the resultant food shortage... same goes for kangaroo meat. I have friends who are strict vegetarians who will eat kangaroo meat as a result of its ethical background.

I'd heard that they kill wild Kangaroos due to overpopulation, but anytime I've tried to look up more info on it I've mostly found lots of anti-killing propaganda. I was kind of leaning towards what you were saying though. The idea of culling the heard of an overpopulated wild animal really does not sound as bad to me as the alternative.
And again I'm not trying to say that you can't love animals and eat them and love to eat them, and I really don't want people to think that's the point of this thread. It's more of an if you don't eat meat how do you feel about wearing leather kind of thing.
Thanks for your thoughts on the subject doldrums.
