He can be attempting to be humourous and failing but it doesn't matter as far as categorization is conce rned, to be categorized as humour something doesn't have to succeed (be humourous) universally or even with most people, hell it can even fail according to most. You lost me when you repeatedly proved to be unable to understand something was a joke when you didn't find it funny, a common occurrence I was trying to correct (the common occurrence being not understanding the joke, your enjoyment of it has nothing to do with this convo). It would appear you now DO understand the joke so my work here is done.

Oh I understood it was a joke, what I didn't understand was why someone would go to that much trouble to say something that no one finds funny, just as you felt the need to hear yourself speak, even though I was the only one foolish enough to listen.
