I am glad I ran through this thread on a whim. His name was entirely familiar to me, despite having a non-interest in fashion then and only picking it up last year. These videos qualified all that fuss I was wondering about, it blew me away!

Pure fantasy and what I really like apart from the impeccable fit of the garments on their wearers (I believe 'tailoring' would be the right word, but I didn't want to use it since there'd be a possibility I was wrong) is the unbelievable textures(??) that he embeds into the garments. From my low pool of resources I can draw on to compare why his use of texture and colour is genius is by comparing it to the purely graphic and visual elements found on clothes by Givenchy (all that rottweiller/star imagery) and whatever else bloggers fap over.

That video of the SS96 show was so good. The rebellious gestures made by the models and just the whole presentation makes me think of rogue inhabitants saying 'fuck you' to a utopian world that they live in.

Don't think my ^commentary is providing anything new but I'm just so blown away that I wanted to write something. Definitely going to look at the late man's archives cause of this.

*On a side-note, the music on all those videos was insane. If anybody can i.d even a couple of songs, that would be sweet.

His constant struggles with weight must have certainly contributed to his depression and early demise :(

I'm a little surprised to hear you say something like that, E. Not everyone who's plump is miserable or struggles with a low self image.

I can't say either way with McQueen because I didn't know him on any sort of personal level, but that said, losing one's mother – especially when they are your one true & constant source of stability and unconditional love – well, that would be enough to do just about anyone in. Skinny, fat, or any where in between.

Of course I did not mean it was the cause, but that it must've contributed. His weight has yo-yo'ed throughout his life and people close to him have said that it was a constant struggle.

Anyway, did not mean to open a can of worms that I now closed. OJSimpson, please think twice before writing, honestly...

Exhibit piece from Savage Beauty at The Met, 2011.
Silence and awe, not words, were better at expressing what was seen that night.

"The Book of God" would be an apt title.

We have had Helmut x Hooper.
Now it's time for McQueen (McQ) x Maxime

Yes. I have not gotten my review copy, but I flipped through one briefly and it did not seem very good. Very straightforward and characterless photo reportage.

When I'm thinking at McQueen I'm thinking at Lady Gaga. :)) Is that ok?
