There's a story about George Cukor, Who was relentless about getting it right, and Jack Lemmon. Jack had come to Hollywood from the Broadway theatre and George was directing him in his first film role. Jack kept doing a scene, and George kept saying, "Cut. Less, Jack, less." And Jack would do it again.

        George: "Cut. Less, Jack, less."
And Jack would do it again.
        George: "Cut. Less, Jack, less."

Jack finally said, "If I do any less, I'll be doing nothing."

        George: "Now you've got it!"

        - Michael Caine "Acting in Film"

I think there's a certain skill in refraining from doing too much. Styling isn't just putting different pieces of clothes together. It's likely the styling began as soon as the location was selected. The tones of the outfit work beautifully with the background and i'm glad to see there is a consistency in the outfit and seeing the pieces (as intended) together in a real world, non runway setting. Don't worry folks, I'm sure we'll all be seeing those Rick pants styled with Saint Laurent tops and Adidas Pure Boosts soon enough.

which anyway also is exactly what rick is all about: many small refinements of repeated themes and looking patiently at one thing from various angles.

i agree with rider - nice post, bodydouble.

I like it, Faust. Would love to see more shoots like this one, where the garments color palette is in sync with the scenery.

Michèle Lamy talks A$AP Rocky, Tattoos and Gold Teeth - Yahoo Style (wut? lol)

The press usually refers to Michèle Lamy as “the wife and muse of designer Rick Owens,” or, if you’re Forbes, “the woman behind Rick Owens.” Outfitted in dark, avant-garde fashion, her forehead swiped with a thick line of kohl, and mouth brimming with gold and diamond dental work, the Frenchwoman does not live in any sort of shadow, nor does she stand idly by, flitting about her husband’s studio. In addition to collaborating with Owens on his namesake collection, she oversees the company’s haute furniture business, creates her own spoken-word music and art, and acts as a sort of creative whisperer to everyone from A$AP Rocky to Gareth Pugh. Here, Lamy talks to Nick Axelrod about her tattoos, teeth, working out (she boxes!), and how she cultivated her singular style...

At Home With Rick Owens: An Exclusive First Look at His New Furniture Designs

Rick Owens never really meant to become a furniture designer, in the official sense of the word. It all began when he started making furniture for his home. Of course the fashion designer proved to have a natural knack for it, and decided to show a furniture collection in Paris back in 2007. This Friday in New York, several of his newer pieces will be on display as a part of the third annual Salon: Art + Design fair (the sister fair to the Paris Biennale) at the Park Avenue Armory.

It never ceases to amaze me how the need for attention in the age of Instagram has trumped discretion and tact (and a score of other values). People will trade any of that for a few likes on their Instagram to satisfy their egos. Talk about the age of narcissism, Christopher Lasch is laughing (through tears) in his grave. Some people are truly fucking pathetic.
