    coats as indoorwear

So, I face a dilemma: my favorite article of clothing is the coat. Not blazers, which - though sometimes fine - stylistically usually don't appeal to me as much as outerwear coats from the same designer. What's your experience with wearing outerwear as indoorwear? I see some women execute this look well with nicely tailored long coats but on men less so.

Have never seen this done in a way that wasn't pure, needless "look at me".

Overall, as long as you're tall, the combination of a lightweight-fitted with heavy tall boots is pretty much the perfect outfit for me.

My casual go-to piece is a tailored dress coat by Xavier Delcour, which I usually wear with more casual stuff (waxed jeans and a sporty jacket underneath) to balance out the dressy fabric and fit. Also, because it's so structured and the fabric is so smooth I sometimes wear it underneath a shorter jacket for a layered look. Surprisingly it works quite well.

Other staples of my wardrobe include a leather coat by Julius, (whose waxed nubuck texture makes it very informal) and Ann coats for spring/summer which are more relaxed and lightweight.

NAT makes amazing dress coats with a very sharp fit and super slim lapels, one day I shall buy one.

I think Fuuma has a knee-length coat from Balenciaga that's not outerwear. He posted it in WAYWT a couple years ago. I still wish I had one.

WTF, blacktulip? How can you associate an entire type of garment with certain social traits? May I remind you that we live in the 21st century.

I also really like Nicolas Andreas Taralis (that's what NAT stands for, yes?) coats. I don't own one, but the cuts, materials, and finishing all look very nice. ln-cc has one on sale...

I think coats can be worn indoors.

may I remind you that this changes nothing about costume & association.

also, this entire thread should be linked to in the WTF thread.

edit: you need something done, you should always do it yourself.

Yup, basically a long sportcoat so lightweight and can be worn inside. Now you may have noticed many people keep their leather jackets inside clubs/bars so it really depends on what type of outerwear we're talking about. I remove my overcoat.
