I'm going to respectfully disagree (emphasis on respectfully) with Klang and suggest "Delta Momma Blues" - while not quite as solid as "Our Mother, the Mountain" - it does hold two of his most devestatingly beautiful songs - "Rake" and "Nothin'"...
Just my two cents...
Re: Venom P Stinger - I was both guest-listed and blacklisted for that show. Fucking hell...but I heard I didn't miss much...
i'd say work through the first 3 albums - for the sake of the song, our mother the mountain, and townes van zandt. but if you have to settle for one, then our mother the moutain - lots of great songs on that one:

Not a huge fan of him in general but last years "Teufelswerk" is a great album. And playing live he also still is a happening.

... been listening to that today. Hard to describe. It's basically electronic music, but very onomatopoetic (< damn, that word is cool in English). Very inspiring in a moody way. Like some kind of Rorschach test to listen to.

the whole album is a bit redundand... but i love this song. and the whole story of the man himself is just mystic and somehow deeply romantic.

Agree on the shite that is Indochine. Their new shit sounds like indie schmindie MOR rock for the Pitchfork generation. Not so sure about Noir désir though. IMO, this is the only French band of recent note that truly rocks.

^ have been listening to reggae for a long time, too.
Some recommendations (might be older, some time has passed since then):
Sizzla - Da Real Thing (his absolutely best!)
Fantan Mojah - Hail The King
... can add some more per request but I don't like spaming with musical suggestions for one cannot listen to all of them in depth anyway. Rather few and well selected..
edit... currently listening to Regina Spektor. Dunno if that meets the SZ musical preferences. I like her voice and in general I am very biased towards music with piano... Plus, the song 'Samson' means a lot to me personally, but that's another story.

But you really gotta listen the albums completely, one track after another. Somehow, The National manage to create a really unique mood in me. These guys are really growing on me... Great, great band. At first you think - wtf, everything sounds kinda the same and the voice is not really giving anymore depth. But you really gotta listen the albums completely, one track after another. Somehow, The National manage to create a really unique mood in me. Somwhere between dreamy, melancholical, happy and sad at the same time... And it's not like that effect is decreasing the more I listen to it...
Would anyone be able to provide me with a torrent link for Circus? I hope its a given that its Cale I seek, not Kravitz. heheh..thank you kindly in advance for any help. Cheers!

I just don't understand all the hype around these guys. The song with the numbers is probably one of the worst song ever written. Plus, i can't stand the way they're dressed during their performances, like fucking zodiac knights or something.
Anyhow, I discovered June of 44 and Shipping news (also The halo benders [wub]) recently, it's like if Fugazi and Shellac had a child together, it's just brilliant.

i can still vividly remember the time i was able to see these guys live. it was quite mesmerizing how much stage presence he had with nothing more than a violin. it was enough to put even tim harringotn with les savy fav to shame. didn't the drummer also play for nick cave or something like that?

Aphex Twin: Selected Ambient Works II (1994).
Just listened to it, heard it, wholly holy, while reading (400
pages printer's proof). It's a fantastic album. Perhaps I'm
now, finally, ready for it, its pulse, ocean, world.
Previously I've only listened to singular tunes, I have
found it (as often with AFX albums) incohesive. But I now
discover it isn't. I needed force – work discipline – to
listen it through. A great discovery, an epiphany. Music
lives. Long live the Aphex Twin!

It got old really, really fast thanks to the internet and over-saturation, but that isn't to say I don't like certain artists that are somewhat affiliated with the genre, or whatever you wanna call it. I think I remember linking you to Salem back in Dec or Jan or something, Q.
Essentially Salem started making vaguely gothic, dirty south-inspired, sort of experimental tunes. They've been doing this for a while now, and have a pretty large back catalog (which is for the most part completely unavailable, how they want it). A few other bands, lets call them the first wave, started making music similar to this in 08 and 09 as far as I remember. There's some more to tell, but that's the general idea.

im glad some people decided to set beats lifted from some "southern booty" sample pack to some cheesed out minor synths.
seriously though, its nice that this exists even if it sounds rubbish to me.

yeah, those screw tracks that i posted possess an (unintentional?) eerie quality that salem and the like never quite capture.

Hip-Hop eh? Man, haven't listened to that in yeeearrrs. Can't believe people still listen to screw (but then again I grew up in Houston so heard it alllll my life).....nice picks todestrieb, that digable planets album is probably my favorite hip-hop album of all-time, but i like the raw picks better!

Was really looking forward to this but feel that the visuals by David Lynch are better than the actual album.
Some nice stuff on there but overall not as good as I expected.
