A live show with The Trashmen. Great! The conclusion with Surfin' Bird was just pure fun. The crowd was for a Tuesday in the 250,000 capita town of Malmö quite impressive, divided in age and appearance. We gave the surfers good support and we shared a great evening. This was memorable.
In high school I for a whole day had Surfin' Bird locked in a student's locker on a CD player's Repeat. It was manifested with the sign "Irritatio est pater studiorum".

Caught Thrones at a tiny instore here last year sometime. I enjoyed it well enuff, good heavy man pushing a heavy sound. Wasn't mindblowing or anything but did get some cobwebs outta there... it is impressive to see the maelstrom that can be worked up by but one man w/ a bass (and affiliated pedalboard, of course).

it's been way too long since i've last listened to some hazelwood. i did hear that slowdive cover the other day though.
anyone know of good blogs that keep up with the vast variety of new music that leaks. with bolachas shutting down and another forum i used battening down the hatches i don't have any easy places to keep up with new stuff that comes out. Only interested in new stuff and it has to have a good variety (ie. from the latest indie rock to the new robedoor and sun araw).
alternatively, if anyone has a what.cd invite they can spare i would be greatly appreciative. i can try to repay you somehow.

actually that would be a third! lech was kind of enough to tackle the rudimentary polish in which my letter was written & the parcel i got from him some time later contained the record. i think it has been made available in cd form through his website since then.
the record is a compilation of his work done for several productions, including the street of crocodiles (not to be confused with the quay film, this is different stuff based on the shulz novel), forefathers eve and golem/funeral music for moths...
anyway, i'll upload this shortly. lech is one of the most interesting composers working today, which is quite remarkable considering he's got being a tenured cultural anthropology professor for a day job.

any way, I think its a beutiful song, the way it builds up is awesome. I did like their previous album but I wouldn't mind a slight departure from the sound/style. this and what little else I've heard seems like a very good direction, so definitely looking forward to it.

Will have to check'em out. I stumpled upon them when I heard 'They Pay Me 4 This' in a restaurant. I quickly turned the Shazam app on my iPhone on and put it near the speakers of the place regardless of what other people were thinking.
And yes, I do agree the intro is sick.

Yeah, RIP, Keith Elam. Much of the early 90's were spent hauling my ass outta bed and walking to wherever it is I was walking to listening to Daily Operation and Hard to Earn on the walkman®. Mass Appeal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xtk8j9gAxCA) is still dope as hell.
david ruffin was a monster
TRUTH.
His incomparable delivery of gruff and falsetto has been known to regularly turn at least one grown man emotionally vunerable and misty-eyed. Case in point:-

http://thewrist.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/circa.jpg
As a long time Anthony Green and Circa Survive fan I find that with this album they've taken a step backwards in lyric writing but they definitely sound more mature than before. It's still a very solid album in many ways, but it's not going to replace On Letting Go on my playlist.
I quite like the track "Frozen Creek" for some reason it gives me goosebumps.

I think I've got to go back and give the Spoils and Stridulum another listen. I live in the same town as her and have made acquaintance w/ her, though haven't met up since she really started getting attention. Was quite into the first couple 7"s but the newer stuff hasn't hit me as hard yet. Might be that I love my lo-fi as lo as possible and the new pro sound isn't as fine-tooled as the gleaming techno that I dig at the other end of the spectrum. I do admire her for not just settling for fuzz-drenched retreads, though I may be waiting for more further down the trajectory of her output.
That said, I was shocked when I met her at how young she is... very bubbly in person, cool girl. Last I heard she was planning on moving to LA in the not-too-distant future.

I've been lurking around the boards and occasionally unleashing a bit of blather on this particular thread. I'll blame the winter for any reduced presence, tho'. In cyberspace as in real life I excuse myself from the harsh winter months as a time of intense reflection and absorption in catching up on whatever cultural vectors I feel myself most lacking in experience. Or at least, whatever cultural vectors can be enjoyed from my listening, dining or viewing dens.
After sufficient hoovering of pulpwood, phonograms and pictureshows (and some allotted processing time), and as the seesawing levels of vitamin D begin their upward climb in spite of the continued consumption of only the palest of ales, I start tricking myself into thinking I have "something to say"... and I make my inglorious return to postingdom.
(in due seriousness, I have been keeping a keen eye on yr stock updates and after a [ninja] purchase of great importance [ninja] will certainly be checking in, good sir)

You ever have like one album from a genre you know otherwise nothing about and have no interest in pursuing that for some reason you listen to and enjoy?
That's we are the romans from Botch for me. Some friend of mine who really likes hardcore / this sort of thing gave it to me a few years ago and I still pull it out every now and then.

Yea, Skywave was the former band of Ackermann right?
He also made an awesome b-band called Black Acid, i may have posted this earlier, but reposting it worth it anyway.

On a different note, i discovered recently Q and not U, and became severely addicted to the first two albums, which i recommend to anyone. Sounds like Fugazi having dance party.

Also, as a good pop/noise band, french lads of Marvin sound pretty nice, if you don't know them:

swans tour? (http://pitchfork.com/news/38743-reformed-swans-announce-tour/) I bought a swans shirt off someone on Superfuture and I gave it to a friend and he tried to cut it up and now it's a belly shirt. Need to find a new one for myself now!

this is tough because they're all great :).
i'd say work through the first 3 albums - for the sake of the song, our mother the mountain, and townes van zandt. but if you have to settle for one, then our mother the moutain - lots of great songs on that one: kathleen, st john the gambler, our mother the mountain, tecumseh, like a summer thursday, etc.. also, get the live at the old quarter, houston, texas double cd set which is the best tvz live document going around. the '69 carnegie hall live recording (a gentle evening with tvz) is damn good too. these solo live recordings are great especially if you're not fond or tire of some of the "overproduction" found on the proper albums. just townes and his guitar.

the whole album is a bit redundand... but i love this song. and the whole story of the man himself is just mystic and somehow deeply romantic.
edit: how to embedd youtube videos?
3. Posting YouTube videos
To embed a YouTube video, go to YouTube, copy the part of the individual video link from your broswer window that identifies the video (it's the part after the = sign)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC_3alnTE9g
Enclose it into the following tags [ youtube ]xyz[ /youtube ] (without the gaps inside the brackets)[B]
