Yeah, I love that Der TPK record. I can't believe I almost lost it a while back. Giving it a few listens before probably putting it away for the season, as I tend to think of it more as a hot-n-humid slumpfest.

I definitely recommend Los Llamarada. They've got a similar heatstroke-punk thing going to these ears, though definitely putting their own bouquet on the fug palette. The next step after this stuff is Car Commercials... though I haven't received my copy of their new one yet...

Ah, my ears are watering for the hinted-at treasures. I was worried for a while there... my iTunes subscription kept giving me an anxious exclamation mark, so I thought things might be "done". Glad to hear otherwise...

Also, agreed on that Koen record. Is the Mountains record you refer to different from the recent Catsup Plate release? I have a copy of that en route hopefully pretty soon. Looking forward to it...

no, it'll never be done. i just don't like to force it. i'm a busy guy and it's something i like to do when the inspiration strikes. it's slowed down, but only because my time and energy is invested elsewhere. but i'm always thinking about the program, and listening and researching and pulling tracks.

but yr patience is much appreciated. this current episode is killing me though...under a lot of pressure and deadlines with other things so i'm having a difficult time focusing.

re: mountains. i was supposed to keep hush about this, but a quick google shows that they've already announced it. the new mountains lp, "choral" comes out in february on thrill jockey. it's fucking stunning. yes, it's different in tone than the catsup plate lp. it's not unlike "sewn" - but it's a bit of a slow burner. it reveals itself a bit slower, but when it hits, it hits damn hard. it's a tremendously beautiful and emotionally rich record. thrill jockey's description is pretty apt, but it still doesn't do the album justice.

anyways. i'm super proud of those guys...they totally deserve this.

edit: also, a room forever is now officially distributed by thrill jockey. need to update the website one of these days.

right now, edie brickell and the new bohemians, because that's what my neighbors are blasting as they "make love". nice change of pace, because their usual nookie musical selection seems culled from female pop singers whose songs have been used as introductions for shows on the wb (now the wc!).

Excellent tracklist, is the set recorded or mixed?

Listening Jesper Dahlbäck's "The Persuader".

It's all poorly mixed from the vinylz. The dub techno excursion exhibits my wretched beat matching abilities. I have friends that want me to post archival mp3s of these sets (apparently they are unwilling to dedicate their Friday evening to tuning in, the bastards), which I may start doing next week. I might start posting the setlists on this thread and if anyone wants mp3s (each is two 1-hour mp3s) they can holla at me. If a show is particularly ill-planned or executed, this offer is null and void.

Only problem is I'm not nearly as good, though he didn't start concertizing until his 40s so there is still hope for me!

I don't get how it's bold, because I even dare compare myself? Anyway, I was just joking, and the reincarnation thing was a childhood fantasy type thing because I got so into his life and music at a young age when one has an imagination. His prelude in C# minor was the first big piano piece I ever learned and I bought about 6 different recordings of his piano concertos when I was something like 15 so it meant a lot to me then. I still have a soft spot for him, but as far as composers I idolize, I prefer Reich, Glass, Riley, Cage etc. Rachmaninoff wasn't an innovator. He made lots of beautiful music, but he stuck to his Romantic guns long after other composers had moved on (not that there's anything wrong with that).

The Flaming Lips Do You Realize

Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize - we're floating in space -
Do You Realize - that happiness makes you cry
Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will die

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do You Realize - Oh - Oh - Oh
Do You Realize - that everyone you know
Someday will die -

PM'ed. strangely enough the person who got me a copy of 'on you' some years back is supposedly parting with his collection, so there is decent chance of me scoring another one.

reason for bringing up/playing steel pole lately, if one was ever needed, came in the form of a television advert campaign for the upcoming 'Left 4 Dead' zombie survival game, spots of which use 'Train to Miami' & 'Borstal'. it came quite unexpectedly, given that steel pole wasn't exactly a well-known bunch even back when they were active.

& on this subject, currently on a kick of pain teens, distorted pony and thinking fellers. somehow it seemed like a logical progression.

hah. i don't have cable - don't suppose you have a link for this? i hope those guys made some nice cash off of that.

logical progression indeed - current listening (i'm regressing a bit here) crain - heater.

PM'ed. strangely enough the person who got me a copy of 'on you' some years back is supposedly parting with his collection, so there is decent chance of me scoring another one.

reason for bringing up/playing steel pole lately, if one was ever needed, came in the form of a television advert campaign for the upcoming 'Left 4 Dead' zombie survival game, spots of which use 'Train to Miami' & 'Borstal'. it came quite unexpectedly, given that steel pole wasn't exactly a well-known bunch even back when they were active.

& on this subject, currently on a kick of pain teens, distorted pony and thinking fellers. somehow it seemed like a logical progression.

But seriously, sleep and the jesus lizard? and I've heard drive like jehu rumours since hot snakes broke up... ATP has to be throwing money at these bands. It's mysterious how they all come out of the woodwork for the shows...

Nick Cave... Weeping Song

Go son, go down to the water
And see the women weeping there
Then go up into the mountains
The men, they are weeping too

Father, why are all the women weeping?
They are weeping for their men
Then why are all the men there weeping?
They are weeping back at them

This is a weeping song
A song in which to weep
While all the men and women sleep
This is a weeping song
But I won't be weeping long

Father, why are all the children weeping?
They are merely crying son
O, are they merely crying, father?
Yes, true weeping is yet to come

This is a weeping song
A song in which to weep
While all the little children sleep
This is a weeping song
But I won't be weeping long

O father tell me, are you weeping?
Your face seems wet to touch
O then I'm so sorry, father
I never thought I hurt you so much

This is a weeping song
A song in which to weep
While we rock ourselves to sleep
This is a weeping song
But I won't be weeping long
No I won't be weeping long
No I won't be weeping long
No I won't be weeping long

Was out in 2006, I believe. It's called Early Violence.

"On the one hand, the record under study—a compilation of the singles and castoffs of NYC quartet Psychic Ills—is unspectacular, a loose flotilla of sonic driftwood on only occasionally hypnotic seas. On the other, Psychic Ills' debut full-length Dins is better, if still not consistently arresting, and the look Early Violence affords into the apprenticeship of a journeyman band is enlightening, promising, even inspiring. " - Stylus Magazine

It's pretty good.

I assume you are talking about the Plies song i posted. I love hip hop and consider some of it to absolutely be art, but not surprisingly I don't count Plies in that category.

However I do genuinely enjoy listening to him and other "trashy" gangsta rappas. Some of it is nostalgia, as I tended to be friends with the gangsta rap kids in my sleepy MD suburb (for some reason they got a kick out of a whiteboy in tight jeans) and I've recently seen a bunch of high school friends over the holiday. Some of it is just that it is fun to listen to, the same way it can be fun to listen to whatever flavor-of-the-mont bubblegum pop song.

Obviously though I wouldn't listen to Plies to inspire my own art or study his magnum opus "Da ReaLIST" closely for deeper meaning, in the same way I wouldn't blast Scott Walker's "Drift" out of my stereo on the way to the 7-11.

I also think there is a Darwinian candor in much "gangsta rap" that is refreshing and unpretentious.

yeah, this was back when i was the house dj at brownies, and later at black and white...before the whole post punk explosion and carlos d.

but yeah, i dont know how i`d feel about seeing any of those bands, 30 some odd years later...part of what made them special was that sort of incendiary energy...i cant really imagine them projecting that now.

having said that, i skipped teenage jesus for that reason...and everyone said it was absolutely amazing...that it was exactly like how it was back then...mean, nasty, dirty, dark and edgy. kind of bummed i missed it now...but ive since heard that theyre going to play again...

pardon for my lack of punctuation...damn japanese keyboards are a bit quixotic.

i know i'm going to burn in some serious infernal flames for what i'm about to say, but ..

between this and 'aaaahh weeerr awww bwaaaaaaaaaaak' ...you people actually like this shit?

looking past whatever 4chan-generation humour can be derived from it, i'm sincerely curious as to what you get out of some dude talking about how you should buy his new record, yo. i'm no authority in such matters, but sometimes seeing this sort of thing gives me pause.

EDIT: joey, that was priceless.

Well first off, I don't listen to the 'aaaahh weeerr awww bwaaaaaaaaaaak'... at all. I've been a faithful supporter of hip-hop music since the age of 11 which has resulted in a very close relationship to the genre. I fully understand that it's not for everybody to appreciate but calling it 'shit' just seems like a huge exaggeration. Remember, we're talking about something highly subjective here. What is 'shit' to your ears might be the very opposite to me which is why I also find your comment rather demeaning and stupid. From my point of view all musicians deserve to be respected as long as they do music they feel for and not sacrificing themselves at the altar of commercialism.

I've given up on actually discussing music a long time ago since it's nothing but pointless. I'm not in a position to change anybodys taste and they're in no position to change mine. I'm glad to give out recommendations for those interested but I see no reason to try and 'turn' people. You listen to the music you enjoy and you're very welcome to post it in this thread. You might not see me praise it but on the other hand I won't do the opposite either.

To answer your question straightforward, yes I appreciate it (the track I posted, obviously). The 4chan part only seems confusing to me so I'll just overlook that part, at least until you explain it further.

But then again, I have yet to be disappointed with any of
his work I have purchased. [blush]

deerhunter - nothing ever happened - best song on microcastle

wire- document and eyewitness

this record is new to me, but this is the most searing live record i have heard. nothing comes close. i snagged this double LP for $5 in a classic rock record store, italian pressing from 1981. you can hear wire's contempt for the audience, and the contempt is returned, via thrown bottles (you can hear glass breaking on the record).

kinda backwards, but it brings to mind Heroin records (gravity), what with snatches of songs here, fragments there. really good stuff.

Atlas Sound holds its own as well (as i recently learned) for all the deerhunter fans. I also learned that dude has Marfans - you can tell when you see him. Its actually kinda nuts how many outstanding people have Marfans...its also nuts how many runway models have Marfans....the DH boys definitely had its share of Marfans...

Let's all just be cool and post quasi-obscure records without info. Or even cooler, just serial numbers.

A-77.

PS: That one is easy.

I'm listening to the Reflection 2LP by Emaciator or a/r 01

four side length pieces of unobtrusive but still pretty crushing noise
some of the tones almost remind me of the usual guitar sound in most emo
